Word Wednesday 10-31
1. Alliteration: (N) a poetic or literary effect achieved by using several words that begin with the same or similar consonants, as in "Whither wilt thou wander, wayfarer?"
2. Hyperbole: (N) is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech.
3. Hyeteron-Proteron: (N) A figure of speech in which the natural or rational order of its terms is reversed, as in bred and born instead of born and bred.
4. Irony: (N) The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
5. Litotes: (N) understatement, especially that in which an affirmative is expressed by the negative of its contrary, as in “not bad at all.”
